And They're Off!
Steeplechase at Monmouth Park Sept. 25
A unique day of racing is set for Sept. 25 at Monmouth Park with the return of the Monmouth Park-Meridian Health Steeplechase, the only steeplechase event in the region. Otherwise known as jump racing, steeplechase racing features a series of jumps and obstacles, and is most often held at official "race meetings" held throughout the country.
Presented in partnership with the New Jersey Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association and the National Steeplechase Association, the Monmouth Park-Meridian Health Steeplechase is a family-friendly day of activities, food, and entertainment.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the patient care programs at K. Hovnanian Children's Hospital at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
With a mix of traditional flat and steeplechase races throughout the day, the event continues the steeplechase racing tradition that was beloved in Monmouth County through an event formerly known as the Monmouth Hunt. Over 10,000 attended last year's event, which marked the first steeplechase race held in the region in almost 15 years.
"Steeplechase meetings have a grand tradition across the country, but are highly complex events to organize," says David L. Flood, president, Meridian Affiliated Foundations. "So, we are very grateful for the dedication of so many in this community, including the team at Monmouth Park, supporters of the original Monmouth Hunt, the New Jersey Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association, and our Meridian trustees, physicians, and team members."
Gates open at 11:30 a.m., with races beginning at 12:50 p.m. General Admission tickets start at $10, with the proceeds benefiting patient care programs at K. Hovnanian Children's Hospital. A $50 ticket provides access to preferred seating by the finish line, with a three-hour, all-you-can-eat barbeque including draft beer, soft drinks, and preferred parking. An exclusive rooftop party for $200 provides the best views of the races, as well as a buffet, premium open bar, and valet parking. Special sponsorship, journal advertising, and corporate packages are also available.
