Guild Theatrewoks Stages Bye Bye Birdie

Guild Theatreworks, a resident theatre company at the 400-seat historic Jersey Shore Arts Center in Ocean Grove, presents the Broadway favorite Bye Bye Birdie. The musical revolves around rock 'n' roll superstar Conrad Birdie (loosely based on Elvis Presley), who, to the dismay of his adoring fans, is about to be drafted into the army. Featuring a book by Michael Stewart, music by Charles Strouse, and lyrics by Lee Adams, comic complications ensue when, as part of one last publicity stunt cooked up by his agent, he promises to give a good-bye kiss to one lucky girl from Sweet Apple, Ohio, on The Ed Sullivan Show. The upbeat score features "The Telephone Hour," "A Lot of Livin' To Do," "Kids," and "Put On A Happy Face." The Jersey Shore Arts Center is located at the intersection of Main Street & Main Avenue in Ocean Grove. Shows are September 11, 17, and 18 at 8 p.m. and September 12 and 19 at 3 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students and children. To reserve call (732) 502-0153.
