FAIR HAVEN
The Newcomers' Club of Rumson, Fair Haven, Little Silver and Shrewsbury will hold a "Touch-a-Truck" fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 11, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Fair Haven Firehouse, 645 River Road.
Children of all ages will have the opportunity to climb on fire trucks and other emergency vehicles.
Tickets are $10 for one child; $5 for each additional child, with a $25 maximum per family. Funds raised will benefit the Life Guard Ecumenical Foundation, a Fair Haven-based organization that helps individuals and families in need. For information, call Jennifer Egan, (646) 345-7651.

Join Citizens for Informed Land Use at 3 p.m. on Sept. 11 for a barbecue at Veteran's Memorial Park on Telegraph Hill Road. CILU provides the barbeque for a nominal charge of $10 per family, $5 per person. Bring a potluck side dish or dessert to help us round out the meal. MIDDLETOWN
Middletown resident Erika Shanley Rech, 18, was crowned Miss National Sweetheart on July 25 in Philadelphia. After winning Miss New Jersey Sweetheart in Ocean City in April, Erika went on to compete in the ANTSO National Sweetheart Competition, coming out the winner.
Rech is a graduate of High Technology High School, Lincroft and will attend Villanova University's School of Business in the fall. She is co-founder of Breast Friends Forever, a charity that raises money for direct relief for women who are struggling with breast cancer. The charity has raised over $150,000 since its inception. She was named a distinguished finalist in the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards and was honored at the State House as New Jersey's Top Youth Volunteer in 2010.
OCEANPORT
Kortney's Challenge, a twomile fun run/walk to benefit the Kortney Rose Foundation, takes place August 29 at Monmouth Park Racetrack. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by the race, awards ceremony and children's activities such as pony rides, clowns and face painting. All participants will receive medals and awards will be given to the top five male and female finishers. Free grandstand admission is included in the race registration. Proceeds will benefit the foundation's mission to support research and education related to the treatment and cure of pediatric brain tumors. For information and a race application visit.
