MB Bans Smoking On Beach
By Sherry Conohan
MONMOUTH BEACH - It's now official. The municipal beach has gone smoke-free.
The Borough Commission, at its July meeting, approved an ordinance banning cigarettes, cigars or other tobacco products at the Monmouth Beach Bathing Pavilion and beach except in a few designated smoking areas.
There was no public comment at the hearing before the ban was passed.
The ordinance prohibits smoking in any area of the Bathing Pavilion, including the deck area, pool area or building proper. It does permit smoking in designated areas, as indicated by signs, created adjacent to the parking lot.
Smoking is prohibited on the supervised beach in front of the pavilion except for designated areas at the south and north ends of the beach. These smoking areas will be within a 50 foot radius of the signs posted at each end of the beach.
