Danna Court Flooding Will be Fixed This Year, Say FH Borough Administrator
By Ryan Fennell
FAIR HAVEN - For over ten years residents of Danna Court in Fair Haven have been dealing with a flooding problem that has recently created a potential sinkhole in the vicinity.
Accor ding to Mayor Michael Halfacre this issue was not brought to his attention until recently. Halfacre said that the borough is currently taking steps to fix the problem.
In 1999 residents of Danna Court sent a letter to the Mayor and Council alerting them of the issue, however, no action was taken to rectify it according to Danna Court resident Sylaja Srinivasan.
Srinivasan and fellow Danna Court residents provided the current Mayor and Council with recent pictures taken of the flooding conditions including a photo of the potential sinkhole behind one of the streetlights.
"The engineer has looked at it and is recommending that we do a television camera scope (of the pipes)," Halfacre said. "He believes there is a collapse somewhere. The theory is that there is a collapse somewhere in the storm drain between (Danna Court) and Third Street and probably between (Danna Court) and the other cul-de-sac over (James Court)."
Borough Administrator Mary Howell informed the residents that the problem would be identified and repaired this year. Srinivasan was concerned with the timetable in light of the recent development of a potential sinkhole.
"The flooding affects all of us," Srinivasan said. "We have trouble getting out of our driveways. It affects emergency vehicles. Sometimes we don't get mail delivery. Our concern is that there is a sinkhole behind the streetlight. What does it mean when you say this year?"
Howell assured Srinivasan and her fellow residents that the entire process, from scoping the pipes to completing the repairs, would be finished by the end of this year.
"We're moving on it," added Halfacre.
