Police Charge Lincroft Man With Burglary, Theft
MIDDLETOWN - On March 11, township police detectives arrested a Lincroft man in connection with two burglaries.
Matthew Edelstein, 19, of Leedsville Drive in Lincroft, was charged with the burglary of a residence March 9. He was also charged with burglary of the same residence on February 24.
According to authorities, the two burglaries occurred at the house of one of Edelstein's neighbors on Leedsville Drive. Residents of the home reported the theft of $2,000 in gold jewelry. The suspect entered the residence by removing a side window, officials said.
Following the burglary report, Dfc. Adam Finck and Det. Daniel Sullivan responded to the area and conducted a door to door canvass which resulted in locating a witness who reported observing Edelstein acting suspiciously on the victims' property and then leaving the area ten minutes later.
After continuing their investigation, the detectives arrested Edelstein, charging him with burglary and theft. During the first burglary, Edelstein is accused of stealing a paint ball gun and a bottle of liquor.
Edelstein was transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Facility in Freehold and was held on $5,000 bail.
Due to the quick response by detectives Finck and Sullivan, authorities were able to recover the stolen jewelry and return it to the victim.
