Saint Patrick's Day Parade To Continue In Highlands
By Ryan Fennell
HIGHLANDS - Despite a recent shakeup in the operational structure of the Highlands Business Partnership in Highlands, the 8th Annual Saint Patrick's Day Parade will be held on Saturday March 20 at 2 pm.
The parade will begin at Huddy Park and be led by the parade's 2010 Grand Marshal Dorothy Kovic.
There are over 100 marching units scheduled to appear along the one-mile stretch of Bay Avenue.
The HBP will host the annual "Competition of Floats" for all businesses and organizations participating and will be competing in three categories, "Best of Show," "Prettiest," and "Most Original."
All fire companies will honor a silent march in tribute to all of the fallen fire fighters.
Political, civic, church, environmental and community organizations represented will include the Monmouth County Freeholders, members of the local American Legion, VFW posts, fire companies, first aid units, Highlands Recreation, and the mascot for the Lakewood Blueclaws.
The Henry Hudson Regional Marching Band and Cheerleaders will also be performing.
The will also be a 50/50 raffle winner announced at the conclusion of the parade.
"All proceeds pay the pipers," said HBP Vice President Jay Cosgrove of Bahrs Restaurant.
Bahrs hosted a fundraiser for the HBP in January, which raised $3500.
There will also be free giveaways from the various floats that will make their way down the parade route.
The pipes and drums performers will also be performing throughout town in the various restaurants in Highlands after the parade.
