Borough Clerk To Fill New Assistant Administrator Job
By Ryan Fennell
FAIR HAVEN - The Mayor and Borough Council, created the position of Assistant Borough Administrator and appointed Borough Clerk Allyson Cinquegrana to the position at Monday's meeting.
Cinquegrana will be paid $10,000 for this position retroactive to January 1, 2010.
The creation of the new position comes in the wake of the Council and Borough Administrator Mary Howell agreeing to make her position a part-time position and cutting her salary by 50 percent.
"This serves two purposes," Mayor Michael Halfacre said. "One is this creates and formalizes a chain of command. It also formalizes the fact that we're going with a part-time administrator right now."
"If and when we go back to a full-time administrator this position is not going to disappear because I think it is important for a chain of command," Halfacre added. "Perhaps the stipend will change if there's a full-time administrator."
Due to some concerns over eventualities of changing administrations and the potential permanence of a set salary from residents in attendance, Councilman Robert Marchese pointed out that the ordinance has a provision that would allow the council to terminate the position given 60 days notice.
Councilman John Lehnert also suggested that the minimum salary be lowered from $7,500 to $500, which the council agreed to adopt. The maximum salary for the assistant administrator position tops out at $25,000.
