Sea Bright Returns Incumbents To Office

SEA BRIGHT - The makeup of the Sea Bright Borough Council remains unchanged after Tuesday's election, with incumbents Dina Long (D) and William "Jack" Keeler (R) winning re-election to the council.

Republican challenger Norma Ryan, running in her first campaign for public office, finished strong with 27.48 percent of the vote. However, it was not enough to unseat either of the incumbents.

"This was an experience," Ryan said. "That's what life is about. It was awesome. I had a lot of fun. I met awesome people."

Ryan said she will continue to stay involved in the town and was unsure of a future run.

"I'm going to continue to stay involved and see what happens. Maybe I'll run again and maybe I won't," Ryan said.

According to unofficial figures posted on Monmouth County's Web site, Keeler was the top vote getter with 363. However, Long was not very far behind pulling in 362 votes.

"I feel grateful and humble and appreciative to all the people who helped and supported me," Long said. "I can't wait to get to work."

Phone calls to Keeler at his home went unanswered on Wednesday.

Mayor Maria Fernandes said she was pleased with the results of the election and that it would be business as usual with both incumbents retaining their seats.
