The Shore Regional Marching Band made school history on October 25 after competing in the United State Scholastic Band Association (USSBA) New Jersey State Championship 1A at Sayreville High School. With a field of 20 high school marching bands from all over the state, Shore took home fifth place overall, a feat never achieved at the high school.
The marching band consists of 41 student musicians and color guard members under the direction of Kevin Pryor, who has been the band director for 23 years.
Brian Hetsko is director of Percussion and Patricia May is the instructor of the color guard. Pryor said, "Everything just came together at this competition. The kids' performance was amazing. It was the result of many hours of work and great support from the band parents."
Last year at the same competition, the Shore band took home 17th place in a field of 21 bands. In its two-month season, the band keeps a busy performance schedule including 10 football games, two parades, three competitions, one band festival, and the NJ State competition.
