AH Social Services Office To Close
By Ryan Fennell
ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS - After November 13 people that use the Atlantic Highlands location for services provided by the Monmouth County Department of Human Services Division of Social Services will have to travel to the division's Freehold office.
The Atlantic Highlands center is scheduled to close on November 13 as part of a countywide consolidation of offices especially those departments that operate in leased buildings according to Monmouth County Public Information Director William Heine.
"It's part of a larger effort by the county to find some efficiencies," Heine said. "We're actually consolidating a lot of offices and reducing the number of leased buildings we have."
The Atlantic Highlands social services office is located at 95 First Avenue and the county's lease for that space is scheduled to expire on November 30.
"In this case we have Freehold (office) in the west and Ocean Township (office) in the east part of the county," Heine said. "We think this (Atlantic Highlands) is an area where the impact is minimal and the savings [are] well over $200,000 per year."
"We've been doing this in other areas too," said Heine. "We brought our Economic Development and Tourism office into the Hall of Records annex in Freehold" from a leased space. "So, we're doing this in a number of different areas."
