Rumson Burglars Apprehended

RUMSON - Last Friday, the Rumson Police Department received a 911 call at 2:37 a.m. reporting a burglary in progress on Bellevue Avenue with the suspects fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

Sergeant Peter Koenig and Patrolman Daniel Campanella of the Rumson Police Department and surrounding police departments were dispatched to check the area.

Lieutenant Joseph Mazza of the Little Silver Police Department reported locating the suspects in Little Silver and stopped the vehicle.

Koenig and Campanella placed the three suspects, Patrick Jackel, 18, of Little Silver and two juvenile suspects, under arrest.

All three suspects were charged with burglary, criminal trespass, receiving stolen property, and possession of an alcoholic beverage underage.

Proceeds from numerous burglaries were recovered in the vehicle upon the suspects' arrest.

Jackel was released on his own recognizance, however, the following day Jackel was arrested again by Rumson Patrolman Christopher York in connection with a car burglary that occurred the previous night on Heathcliff Road in Rumson.

"Patrolman York got more information about another vehicle burglary and went over and arrested him again," Rumson Police Chief Richard Tobias said.

An IPOD had been stolen from a vehicle on Heathcliff Road on July 24th. Jackel was found to be in possession of the stolen IPOD and was further charged with theft of movable property, and receiving stolen property.

Jackel was once again released on his own recognizance pending a court date.
