Three Faiths Event To Celebrate Differences

The Jewish Federation of Monmouth County is spearheading a countywide "Three Faiths Event" on Sunday, June 14.

According to planners, the event aims to bring together the Abrahamic faiths to foster a partnership of acceptance, cooperation and trust.

Pastor Joshua Dubois, director of Faith Based and Neighborhood Partnerships for the Office of the President, will be the guest of honor. Congressman Rush Holt and other government leaders will attend.

The Jewish Federation's community relations committee is working with Jewish, Christian and Muslim communities to plan "an extraordinary day that will not only be a role model for the rest of the country but an annual event that will help define common history, inspire common goals, rejoice in our similarities, celebrate our differences and unite rather than divide."

Three houses of worship will serve as hosts for the first part of the event that begins at 12:30 p.m.: Shaykh Reda Shata, The Islamic Society of Monmouth County, Middletown; Rabbi Jonathon Roos, Monmouth Reform Temple, Tinton Falls and Rev. Myrna Bethke United Methodist Church, Red Bank. A "three- faiths bus" will be available for the interfaith tour.

At 4 p.m. a multicultural festival with music, art, dance, song, activities for children and food will be held at the Monmouth University's Anacon Hall in West Long Branch.
