Monmouth Beach Candidates Forum Set For April 16

MONMOUTH BEACH - A candidates forum featuring the six persons vying for the three seats on the Monmouth Beach Commission in the May 12 election will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, at Borough Hall.

The forum is being sponsored by the Sandpipers senior organization.

Running for the three seats are the incumbents who currently hold them and a slate of challengers who are seeking to replace them.

The incumbents are Mayor Sue Howard, of 39 Highland Ave., who is completing her first four-year term; Commissioner James F. Cunniff, of 11 Johnson St., who was first elected to the commission in May 1997 and served two four-year terms under former Mayor James McConville before successfully running for re-election in 2005 on a team headed by Howard, and Commissioner William J. McBride, of 69 Seaview Ave., who took his seat a little over a year ago on Jan. 15, 2008, when appointed to fill a vacancy created after former Commissioner Kim Guadagno was elected Monmouth County sheriff.

They are running under the slogan, "Experience, Leadership, Serving your Interest."

The challengers are Jennifer A. DiLorenzo, of 20 Harbour Way, a member of the Board of Education; John V. Sheeran, of 11 Griffin St., president of the Sandpipers seniors organization, and Robert F. Teevan, of 8 Hastings Place. They are running under the slogan, "Your Money, Your Future, Our Concern."

McBride, DiLorenzo and Sheeran all unsuccessfully sought election to the Borough Commission in 2005 as part of a 10-candidate field. McBride finished fourth, DiLorenzo finished sixth and Sheeran finished fifth in that contest.
