Hockey Game To Raise Funds For Improved Colts Neck Firehouse
SUPPORTERS OF THE Colts Neck Volunteer Fire #2 will take to the ice to raise funds to renovate their firehouse on Conover Road.
"Shooting for a Goal,' a March 29 hockey event between the Colts Neck Steeds and the NJ Devils Alumni, is just one of the fundraisers the fire company has planned to meet their goals to raise $750,000.00 needed for the renovations. The expansion is needed to accommodate the growing community of residences and businesses in the township that rely on the services that the fire department provides.
The event begins at 11 a.m. at the Floyd Hall Arena on the campus of Montclair State University, Montclair.
The Steeds will challenge NJ Devil Alumni players who have played in Stanley Cup Championship for years 1995, 2000, and 2003. Two of the players from the Alumni team include former Devils Bruce Driver and James Dowd.
Local participants from the Colts Neck Steeds include Colts Neck Police Chief Kevin Sauter who plays in various men's leagues.
Both Sauter and Steeds player Kevin Ketelsen Jr. an alumni player of Red Bank Catholic will serve as co-captains in the match. The Steeds Head Coach Mike O'Sullivan also a fireman is responsible for team organization as well as coordinating practice sessions for the Steeds.
Other local participants include Joe Miller and J.B. Sarra currently playing for Christian Brothers Academy, Lincroft and Tony Valentino with Red Bank Catholic. Shore area connections include Dillon Balsamo, Ryan Farrell from Villanova, James Casey, Mike Egnatowicz, Will Hanley, Philip Maida, Ryan Post and Gregg Daly.
Doors open at 11 a.m., with events for the family including face painting, a fun table, silent auction, photo opportunities with NJ Devils' mascot and the NJ Devils' Alumni players. The donation admission fee is $20.
