M'town Woman Arrested For Assault, DUI
On Tuesday Feb. 4, at approximately 3:45 p.m., motorists on Route 36 in the Leonardo section of Middletown Township, called the Middletown Police Department reporting an erratic driver traveling west on Rt. 36. After receiving a description of the vehicle and the license plate, Sgt. Michael Shaffery saw the vehicle stopped on Leonard Avenue near Rt. 36.
Sgt. Shaffery approached the driver, who exhibited signs of being intoxicated, and requested driving credentials. During the conversation the driver, Jean M. Lisak, age 45, from Laurence Harbor, exited the vehicle and began to walk away from. Shaffery. She was directed to return to her vehicle but ignored the order and continued to walk away from the car.
At this point, according to police, Sgt. Shaffery chased after Lisak and tried to place her under arrest. As he escorted her toward his police car, Lisak resisted and when he attempted to handcuff her she lunged at him and bit his hand. Eventually he was able to subdue her, and she was taken to police headquarters for processing.
While at police headquarters Ms. Lisak continued to be combative and extremely uncooperative. During a search at police headquarters, Officer Larissa Doriety discovered Ms. Lisak to be in possession of marijuana and an unknown white powdery type substance. The white substance was not immediately identified and will be sent for further testing. At one point during the processing procedure, she assaulted Sgt. Paul Bailey by striking him in the chest.
Ms. Lisak was charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer (Shaffery and Bailey), resisting arrest, driving while intoxicated, refusing to submit to breath testing and numerous motor vehicle violations. She was detained at the Monmouth County Correctional Institute in lieu of $10,000 bail.
Sgt. Shaffery was treated at Riverview Medical Center for the bite and released. Corporal Jack Hueston, Officer Michael Kenney, Officer Larissa Doriety and Officer Jason Caruso assisted with the arrest.
