Red Bank Man Sentenced To Prison For Serial Burglaries -
Man broke into homes occupied by women living alone

RED BANK - A borough man, labeled a serial burglar by authorities, was sentenced last week to eight years in prison.

Mauro Vasquez-Galvan, 27, was handed his sentence in Superior Court, in Freehold, on Oct. 3, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office.

Vasquez-Galvan had pleaded guilty on Aug. 25 to five counts of third-degree burglary, two counts of third-degree attempted burglary, two counts of third-degree invasion of privacy and one count of fourth-degree receiving stolen property.

The burglaries and attempted burglaries involved parked vehicles and residences in the Mechanic Street area. According to the prosecutor's office, most of the break-ins involved the homes of women who lived alone. In at least three instances, Vasquez-Galvan entered the residences in the early morning hours while the women were sleeping. He selected his victims, authorities said, by peering into their windows.

Vasquez-Galvan stole a variety of items from the homes and from the approximately 19 car burglaries.

The proceeds of the break-ins, discovered at Vasquez-Galvan's residence included electronics, jewelry, clothing, including women's undergarments, and photographs, totally about 361 items, according to the prosecutor's office.

Vasquez-Galvan had apparently taken the film and memory cards from some of the stolen cameras and had it developed and had some of the photos framed or arranged in albums, according to authorities.

Last week Judge Paul F. Chaiet handed down a four-year prison term, with a two-year parole, for the burglary charge; Chaiet imposed another four-year term on one of the invasion of privacy offenses, with another two-year parole stipulation, with the judge determining those two sentences to run consecutively. Another four-year sentence was imposed, which Vasquez-Galvan will have to serve concurrently, with the perpetrator having to serve a total of eight years in state prison.

Along with the prison term, Chaiet ordered Vasquez-Galvan not to have any contact with any victims or return to any of the crime scenes, according to the prosecutor's office.
