Police Department has arrested a Belford man, Jason Burkowski, age 24, from Park Avenue in the Belford section of the township and charged him with car jacking, impersonating a police officer, simple assault, driving while intoxicated, and other motor vehicle violations after an early morning incident on Route 35 in Middletown.

- HIGHLANDS - The American Littoral Society has been granted "friend of the court" status by the Appellate Division of the Superior of New Jersey in a lawsuit challenging New Jersey's new beach-access rules.

- Red Bank Police Arrest Five For Sale Of Narcotics
- RED BANK - Borough police have arrested five borough residents and charged them with a series of narcotics offenses alleging they sold heroin and cocaine from a west side residence. Last Thursday police arrested Joel Mejia-Sarabia, 39, Palemon Mejia-Sarabia, 43, Teofilo Perez-Mejia, 31, Fidel Mejia-Perez, 33, and Gabriel Mejia-Fera, 21, and charged each of the five with two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a controlled dangerous substance within 1,000 feet of a school zone, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance with the intent to distribute, according to a statement released by the police on Monday.
- RB School District Sees Growth In Student Population
- RED BANK - It will be a little more crowded in the borough public schools when classes begin next week. Superintendent of Schools Laura Morana said recently the student population has increased by six percent.

- Council Rejects Liquor License Renewal For Ashes
- RED BANK - The majority of the Borough Council this week voted against renewing the liquor license for Ashes Cigar Club. The council at Monday's meeting voted to 3-2, with one abstention, to not renew plenary retail consumption license for 2008-09 for Ashes Cigar Club bar and restaurant, 29-33 Broad Street.
- Tinton Falls Man Charged With String Of Area Bank Robberies
- RED BANK - County law enforcement officials said this week that the Tinton Falls man arrested for the robbery of a borough bank robbery two weeks ago was responsible for four other area bank robberies occurring since this spring.
- Red Bank Tables Proposed Ban On Plastic Bags
- RED BANK - Plastic bags can still be in use in the borough - at least for now. The Borough Council at Monday's meeting voted to table the proposed ordinance that would have brought about a comprehensive ban on the commonly used polyurethane plastic shopping bags.
