HIGHLANDS - In the aftermath of last week's allegations of malfeasance on the part of a state Department of Transportation employee, some area's legislators are calling for a halt on the Highlands-Sea Bright bridge construction project and
for a formal
investigation. Late last week state Senator Sean T. Kean and Assembly members David Rible and Mary Pat Angelini sent letters to the Department of Transportation (DOT) Commissioner Kris Kolluri and to the state Attorney General Ann Milgram asking for the work to stop and for Milgram's office to investigate last week's announcement that the Monmouth County Prosecutor was charging a DOT employee assigned to the bridge project with tampering or falsifying official government records.
RUMSON - The routine of a school day came to a halt on Wednesday as Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School went into emergency lockdown, after threats were allegedly made against a student. According to a statement released by the school administration, a student at the school was the target of an
on-line threat.
MIDDLETOWN - During its regular meeting Monday night, the Middletown Township Committee unanimously voted to introduce the proposed 2008 municipal budget. Middletown Chief Financial Officer Richard Wright presented the committee with a revised budget that managed to cut $746,000 from the version that was presented on February 28th.
RED BANK - A substantial development being proposed for the western end of Monmouth Street is back again before the borough zoning board, in a revised form from nearly a year ago. The board last Thursday began hearing a bifurcated application for Siros of Monmouth, calling for the plan to develop a nearly half-acre parcel on the corner of Monmouth and Pearl Street, for a retail and
residential project.
